Willie Mays was my favorite all time baseball player. The Say Hey kid could do it all.
I was at his debut game in New York with the Mets in 1972. It was May 14th, Mothers Day and my mom took me to the game, first stopping at Coney Island for a blueberry knish. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon, ironically the Mets were playing the Giants.
We sat up a couple levels behind the plate and I will never forget watching my idol hit this fifth inning home run so effortlessly. There will never be another Willie Mays.
