Stray Cat Strut

I got a call from Jim, the Ratmaster for the 5150 Ratrod Club yesterday morning.

Was I interested in joining the rat pack on a run and concert at the Wiens Winery in Temecula?

The original Stray Cat bassist Lee Rocker was playing with his band along with the excellent Buzz Campbell and the Heartarches? It was a promotion of Robert Walker and Heyday Events.

Sure, I was down.

I traveled with hot rod buddy Paul in his 63 T-Bird in a big line of cars.

I felt like a fish out of water in a car bearing no rust but the ratrodders were cool and gave us no guff.

Paul's car, painted in the color "beauty red", was featured prominently in the Flubber movie.

Our first stop was at Jim's ratrod pal Mark's house and a look at his garage.

Tats and soul patches abound, I felt pretty alien.

These guys are all expert welders and mechanics, I have no mechanical aptitude whatsoever.

But they were all super nice.

We got to the event and parked.

Unfortunately there was a lot of shade and cross light so it was not optimal for photography but this should give you an idea of some of the cars that were there.

We put our deck chairs out on the grass and sat in the relaxing atmosphere.

Buzz Campbell came out to do a soundcheck and I took his picture.

He is an excellent guitarist with a voice a bit like Jimmy Dale Gilmour. He plays a pretty pink Gretsch. Wish I still had my 64...

Afterwards we watched the Lee Rocker set which was also excellent.

Drove back home and enjoyed the warm air with the top down on the convertible.

All in all, a wonderful time was had by all. I met some really nice people, listened to great music, enjoyed a really tasty glass of cabernet sauvignon and hope to get back there again!
Thanks to everybody who made this happen.
