Big Pink

Ruminating a bit more on the death of lead guitar player and songwriter J. Robbie Robertson and the legacy of The Band I had a thought.

The seminal Music from Big Pink album came out in 1968.

Without its huge and profound influence I highly doubt the Grateful Dead would have tapped into its own venture back into Americana with its release of both Workingman's Dead and American Beauty in 1970.

The Band paved the way for the Dead's embrace and return to American roots and bluegrass.

They turned a bit away from the cosmic and came back to the heartland with these two fine albums.
