I didn't feel good yesterday and went home early with the cold. Upon passing the hawk nest I noticed that the mother was tearing onto something rather large. It turned out to be a snake.
Now most photographers will tell you that shooting in low light and afternoon cross shadow is the worst. Very hard to get focus and proper exposure. I took a couple shots with the zoom Sigma and then decided to bring the tripod and the prime lens out. I haven't shot it in a while and this would be a perfect opportunity.
The top shot is the Sigma, you can see that the others are significantly sharper.
Although the Nikkor 400mm ƒ2.8 has a quarter less range than the Sigma, I can stop it all the way down and it makes up for it in sharpness. It is easier to get autofocus with a fast lens. I took the vr off as it did not need it on the tripod.
I took a zillion shots, got some decent ones, haven't even had the time to properly look at them. But this will give you a taste.
