My friends Bill and Sue are fortunate enough to take really good vacations. I am quite envious, to be quite honest. 

While their neighbors in the Monterey peninsula are battling floods and torrents, they are basking in 80° weather down under.

Their current soiree takes them to South Island, New Zealand for a month.  Very lovely.

They are staying at a place called the Cabot Lodge. I looked it up on Trip Advisor:

Bill says that this walk up to the glacial Marian Lake was the toughest four hour hike of his life. 

Looks totally worth it.
