Karen Carpenter called herself a drummer who sang. Beloved by such luminaries as Buddy Rich and Sinatra, she had a unique voice and musical ability and skill set that may never be matched. A lot of her material was lame for my taste but the melancholy singer could sure nail it on occasion, as she does on this Leon Russell classic.
