Yeah, maybe later. I've recently dumped a few people permanently and told them why, after talking kindly to them for the last four years, being understanding and using the very truly felt belief that I could understand their frustrations of the past that made them get behind Trump. Now, they've outed themselves as rigidly authoritarian people who dislike others on sight for how they look and nothing will change their personalities on this. They refuse to use reason or even human kindness or Christianity or anything to try to overcome this failing. So, yeah no. I'll be polite, but will always remember they'd rat people I know and love out to the secret police and that is a permanent friendship breaker for me.
I'm with Anonymous in comment #1. The last four years have shown me that some 30-40% of Americans are, at their core, authoritarian, racist, and hateful. It's hard to believe, but it's become pretty clear. I suppose it's just statistics. Just as about 1% of the population are pure psychopaths, another 30% (being generous here) have some of those traits and have outed themselves under Trump.
The last four years have changed my assumptions about people in general. I'd say real empathy is a much rarer trait than I would have expected. Our systems of governance need to change to account for this "I only care about me and people just like me" characteristic that's now visible. Sad, but I think it's true.

Fake news, I am sure!
