Double Scoop

I was curious and pleased when I got this week's issue of the New Yorker.

Could it be? I checked the signature but it was rather vague...

I peered inside. Yes, Wayne Thiebaud, one of my favorite contemporary artists, had painted another cover, called Double Scoop, his ninth for the magazine.

Thiebaud is pushing the century mark, he is a fellow scorpio who will be one hundred November 15th of this year.

He is that rare artist who has never stopped improving and looking at his subject, truly a gem, his shadow color, his brush work.

Look at the bold red color on the right of the cone, picking up the absolutely right luminous tone and highlight from the table.

Perfect.

I have been privileged to sell several of his paintings in my career.

Bravo to a brilliant artist. He, like much of his work, is a sweet and rare confection.

Agreed, Wayne Thiebaud is the best contemporary painter. Very nice cover painting.

I love Thiebaud too. That's amazing that you've sold some of his paintings, that you actually had them in
your possession.
