Take the shot

This is a merlin, in fact the only one I have ever photographed. A merlin is our second smallest falcon, a bit larger than a kestrel. Here he is munching on dinner.

I took this shot in bright evening light, on the second trip I ever made to the Wildlife Area. Figured it would happen a whole bunch of times in the years since but it never has.

It happens like that, sometimes you get one shot and you better take it. Might not ever see it again.

I shot this with my Sigma zoom and a low res, crop sensor Nikon camera. Not optimal but enough to do the job. Got lucky.
