I see what is becoming familiar behavior with the President and the press. For whatever his faults, he is trying to give people hope, even if that hope is not statistically or factually supported. Then he gets corrected by either the press or his own staff and he blows up. Nothing wrong with trying to instill hope but it has to be factually supportable. And it is not the job of the press to be either optimistic or pessimistic, that is for the citizenry to decide.
I don't know about you but I would rather not get false hope. Because when somebody lies to me or distorts the truth I tend to never believe them again. Well meaning or not, I hate being manipulated. But our president is nothing if not a salesman, in fact it is his only superpower and salesmen like to stretch the truth and get people emotionally motivated. He will never change. But it is dangerous in times like this when people need tests and masks and ventilators and he says there are no problems getting them and there obviously are. I prefer to have people, no matter how well meaning, not bullshit me.
I read a story that mentions the Uline company this morning, I have bought from them for the store. Uline doesn't want their workers to tell other workers if they are sick. Bad for morale.
And in the Midwest, Uline, a major distributor of packaging materials and industrial supplies, kept its work force going through the week, despite complaints from employees, including those crowded into its call centers, working side-by-side in cubicles.“Nothing’s really changed,” one employee said. “It’s just nerve-racking.” Employees received an email Thursday from the Uihlein Family, owners of the $5.8 billion company and big donors to Republican causes, thanking them for their efforts and saying that the “White House called upon us twice with huge orders” this week. The same day, a manager at one Uline call center sent a note to employees.“If you, or family members, are under the weather with cold/allergies — or anything aside from Covid-19,” it read, “please do NOT tell your peers about the symptoms & your assumptions. By doing so, you are causing unnecessary panic in the office.”My first question would be, how do I know if I have the virus if I can't get a test? Many people can not. And I also think about the few times I have worked for companies that tried to legislate how I think and speak. That didn't last very long. And I won't be buying much from Uline anymore. Here's another from them.

It would appear that you’re having a setback with the TDS.
Take the following immediate steps:
1. Turn the TV off CNN
2. Get out of your bathrobe
3. Open the front door
4. Walk to the nearest nature preserve
5. Go back to house and get camera
6. Repeat steps 1 thru 4
7. Take some great bird shots
8. Share with friends
9. Repeat step 1
I thought I was being pretty damn objective here, Phantom. Trying to give the worthless lout a break. You know what I've been doing for entertainment? Watching hockey fights on Youtube. Domi, Probert, McSorley, Brashear. Very entertaining and Probert was an ass.
I thought you were pretty charitable with Donny Little Hands. He is trying to offer some hope but he does it in such an awkward, tortured way.
I did a little research: the 2009 H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus originated in the US. Killed about 3500 in the US. More across the world. Had Trump been Pres at that time, would he have called it the American Virus?
That racist, target an enemy stuff plays well with the troops.
The San Diego coronavirus local situation site is interesting if you check it each day. So far, increases are exponential, doubling every 3-4 days. That will be bad if the trend continues into the large numbers. Not so bad when you see an increase from 110 to 135 in a day but if the rate continues a daily shift from 110,000 to 135,000 could be really nasty. Especially since the site only tracks confirmed cases, not the party animals at the beaches who will get mildly ill and not get detected. I am hoping there is a lag in which the effects of social distancing can be seen, a decrease in rate turning up a week or so after social distancing begins. If it is still increasing at the same rate in another week I will start worrying about the medical system.
The Swine Flu originated in pigs in central Mexico and killed over 12,000 Americans. COVID 19 originated in Wuhan, China. Those are facts. The President's reference as 'Chinese virus' which was very similar to numerous news organizations and governments referring to it as the 'Wuhan virus' was, as he very clearly stated, not only factual but a pointed message to the world and to the Chinese Communist Government that this killer microbe originated from China and not from American soldiers as ChiCom propaganda claims. Those are facts. Blue Heron Blast plays to its 'base' with regular helpings of plain old garden variety bigotry and hate. That's just an opinion. COVID 19 is spread primarily, almost exclusively, human to human. Did anybody (I'm with science!) see Dr. Anthony Fauci this morning explain how Trump's travel bans will no doubt have tremendous effect on lowering the initial spread and flattening the curve of this infection in the U.S.? Especially the travel ban on China where this virus originated (still a fact) way back during the all important impeachment time? I can't wait to see the 'facts' when this blog resons how Joe Biden would have handled this better than Trump and his racists. The same Joe Biden that called Trump a 'hysterical xenophobe' (fact) for his January China travel ban (stopping individuals carrying the virus from its origin) and who, astonishingly, claimed just 8 days ago that travel bans and border closures were uneccessary. Travel ban? C'mon, man!
Interesting comment, I am not going to get in a finger pointing match with you. I think that there are more productive uses for our time than worrying about the origin of this pathogen. I am not going to blame the Chinese people in any case, nor Asian Americans, some who are being apparently harassed and attacked by the minions. I did find this however on wikipedia:
In September 1988, a swine flu virus killed one woman and infected others. A 32-year-old woman, Barbara Ann Wieners, was eight months pregnant when she and her husband, Ed, became ill after visiting the hog barn at a county fair in Walworth County, Wisconsin. Barbara died eight days later, after developing pneumonia.
