Know thine enemy

I came across an interesting link last night at The Daily Beast, Leftists Use the Trump Playbook to Paint Biden as Senile. This occurred shortly after I received this link from a friend, which animates one of Biden's famous gaffes.

Uncle Albert
I believe that the left is engaging in a very dangerous circular firing squad here. Another case of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Not to mention doing the Republicans' work for them.

Do you know what it means to be co-opted?

I do not believe that Bernie Sanders will ever get over the communist/socialist stigma of his past statements and positions and be electable in this country.

This is a guy who lavished praise on the totalitarian government of Venezuela in 2011, a position he later recanted. I saw how that government worked out. I believe that he would be as divisive as our current president and our country needs something else right now.

Joe Biden is not a perfect candidate. They don't exist in the real world. He is prone to verbal misstatements. But I think that he is the same guy he always was and I think he would put very able people in position to keep our government running effectively and who will make sure that he is making rational decisions.

In the worst case scenario, I would take your mad Uncle Albert floating on the ceiling over the current malignancy inhabiting the White House any day. As noted by the excellent piece in the New York Times by Frank Bruni, Bernie Sanders has already won, Sanders has changed the national political conversation and the other current candidates are all now ideologically to the left of predecessors Kerry, Obama and Hillary Clinton.

You can of course, also thank Trump for that, his extreme positions, flat wages, income inequality and the lack of any pretense of moral conviction having so greatly exacerbated the cultural war and political divisions in our country. I think that Biden might be able to make at least a small step to heal them. If Sanders gets the nod, I will back him, I hope that those on the left will not hand the country back to Trump because they got a sniff and it didn't go their way.

I take your point but don't see how you could think he's the same old Joe, he was not like that when he was vice prez. Not at all. Biden has slipped into senility, and will only get worse over time.

The idea that Bernie has somehow transformed the center-right 'mainstream' democrats into real progressives is wishful thinking.

If Bernie wins the nomination by some miraculous chance the corporate slaves running the DNC will try to super delegate him out of the race.

If that happens there might be trouble. Like the '67 dem convention. Which actually did have an effect, along with incidents like the national guard shooting down a few Kent State students.

I agree that Joe Biden appears to be making more gaffs today then ever before. This does raise concerns about his ability to serve out a term. This makes his VP selection . His debate performances so far also leave great doubts about his ability to deal with Trump during debates.

Bernie uses the same playbook that Trump, Russian communists, Cuban and Venezuelan socialists, Nazis, and pretty much every populist across Europe employ. The argument is simple: You should be angry because (the rich, the immigrants, the deep state, the corporations, the Jews, the establishment, etc. ) are conspiring to take from you what rightly belongs to you and I, the outsider, will fight for you. Anyone who opposes me, opposes you. I cannot abide politicians or political movements that are based on class-envy, racism, nationalism, nativism or similar philosophies.

Trump must go! If Biden can beat him, and I think he can, he deserves the nomination. Bernie turns on a lot of people with some of his positions, but, I am afraid he will turn off even more people with those same positions.

I love the description by Aberda (previous comment) of Bernie's "vale proposition". Yes, that's exactly what's bothering me about Bernie. Not his policies, some of which I agree with. But his whipping up the masses to make them angry about "unfairness. Exactly like Trump. And we don't need any more of that.

I have bet one of my ultra-Repub friends a fine bottle of wine that Biden/Klobuchar or Biden/Harris will defeat Trump in November. He thinks I'm deranged. I think there will be lots of previous Trump voters who now regret their part of enabling him and who will gladly vote for a centrist candidate of either party. We shall see.

I doubt many of those decrying Biden are leftists, so many false flag operators working now. ~ Diane O
