Goings on

Long time Fallbrook teacher and guitar player Jack Kovic sent this over. His new gig at Pala Mesa. Should be good, haven't heard him gig before.

David Brin and Richard Dreyfuss are hosting a screening of Close Encounters at UCSD. Just went to get a ticket and it had already sold out. Damn.

Espresso Lounge in Fallbrook is hosting a comedy night March 28. Three comedians, Bijan Mostafazi, Brandon Young and Zoltan Kaszas. Show starts at 7, tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. I hear these guys are actually funny. More info here. Call (760) 731-1012 for tickets.

Robin and Dave are playing out in the desert this weekend. More info on them here.

John and Susan's son Chris Sullivan has a new cd out, Western Movies. Chris is a very talented singer and player, quirky sort of sound, equal parts Oh Mercy, death door Johnny Cash and Jimmy Reed, with an overall Lanois produced vibe. I like the frenchy sort of number, Gran Fromage.

Chris hails from Lexington, Kentucky. We actually jammed for a few minutes in my gallery last month while he was out. I eventually froze up but it was fun while it lasted. This guy has an original sound, a great attitude and I wouldn't be surprised to see him really hit it out sometime down the road. Best of luck and congratulations on a really nice effort!

The photo show at the Pinnell looks good as well. I stuck two shots in. My favorite shots, among many, were Brett Stokes pictures which he actually took on his iphone. Call me biased but I think artists generally make better photographers than technical sorts. Brett and I have been friends for over thirty years and painted together both in college and professionally. His pictures usually say something. That is a good thing.
