Phil Everly

Leslie and I had just gotten into the business and were doing a monthly show in Burbank back then, The famous Pickwick show, nothing like it before or since, serious murderer's row of painting and antique dealers.

Lots of famous people used to stop by the Caskey's show. Mick Fleetwood, Streisand, Madonna, Roseanne Arquette were all regulars. Many others.

One day a guy walks by, a bit older and heavy set. I know you, I tell him. Really he said.  Yes, are you in entertainment? He shook his head in the affirmative. Is your name Phil? He laughed. And that is my story of meeting Phil Everly. Chatted for a minute. Very nice, humble man.

Later Richard Carpenter and I saw the Everly Brothers open up for Simon and Garfunkel at San Diego State in what was an excellent concert.

The Everly Brothers hold an important place in the timeline of American popular music. They had to be an enormous influence on the Beach Boys. Their father was a great alternating thumb guitar picker in his own right.

Bye bye, Phil,

When I was 14 and living in Hong Kong, my dad took us to a night club show featuring the Everly Brothers. It was so late at night, and I really can't remember their performance, but I sure remember them trying to pick up my oldest sister Patti and she was mesmerized by Don. The stare from his eyes as he looked at my sister was unforgettable. Nothing took place of course, but they surely weren't shy around the women. True Bird dogs! ha,ha..

I have several of their albums and played them over and over. Wonderful music and lyrics. May he rest in peace.
