Bert |
If you missed it, twenty nine year old Naval Petty Officer Emily Valenzuela knew that she had a long, seven month deployment ahead of her this past year and made a deal with her cousin Christa Valenzuela if she watched her beloved dog, she could have free rent at her apartment.
Christa assented and moved in but evidently she and the dog didn't quite see eye to eye so she quickly took it to the pound. She told them it was a stray dog. Within a week they had put the beloved family dog down.
Emily came home from her tour the other day to find out the Bert had been put down in December. Christa says that the dog was unruly and untrained. Lost her cousin's email and couldn't tell her what went down. On the drive back from the airport she broke the news to her cousin that the dog had been taken to Animal Services and adopted. Emily did some detective work and discovered the truth.
Christa of course blames everybody but herself. Says the dog crapped on the floor, bit her and ran away a couple times.
“She knew the dog and I didn’t get along,” Christa Valenzuela said. “I told her the problems I had with the dog, and she never trained him. If she had trained the dog and kept in communication with me, the dog would still be here.”
Christa said there was no written agreement for her to take care of Bert in exchange for free rent, although it “could have been mentioned once.” She said she assumed she would be paying her cousin back, but she doesn’t currently have the money.
Cops won't do anything, say it's a civil matter. What a class act Christa is. Nobody screws you like somebody you've been good to.
