Getaway

Franz Bischoff
Our pals invited us on a great outing and midday distraction the other day. We first drove up to the Irvine Museum to see the Franz Bischoff exhibition. The show is breathtaking in quality. Do yourself a favor and catch the extraordinary collection of the late master china and canvas painter. One of the finest representations of california impressionism I have ever witnessed.

After the show we cruised over to South Coast Plaza and saw how the other half were living. Hermes, Jimmy Choo, all the windows were great. Only saw a quarter of the mall this time but I had a gas.

Our friends had been telling us about this over the top sushi bar in Seal Beach, Koi. I'm like ya,ya,ya. Guess what, they were right, best I have ever had, most creative, most delicious and I have been nibbling on the raw fish since Miki-sans in the mid seventies. Superb!

Your photos of the red tail are wonderful. I'd visit the blog just to see them. Thanks for the Franz Bischoff information...we'll be up that way next week and will try to see it.

Although I hated to read about how you suffered as a child, I think your writing on the subject is superb. What happened to the memoir you began a few years ago and then stopped?

I had some one at coffee just this morning tell me it was too much information. When I start writing about these things it bothers certain people in and out of my family. My brother says he has managed to block most of it out although he is cool with it.

It just came up and I'm not good at censoring myself so I wrote about it. It is a strange thing but for most of my lifetime my best writing or painting has occurred when I am the sickest or most depressed.

I think that it would be fatuous for a person who has accomplished as little as I have to contemplate writing a memoir. That is why I need to write fiction. I can say the really dark, heavy things I need to say and make them out of whole cloth and that way no one gets offended or considers it autobiographical and I don't get committed or feel shamed and exposed.

Thank you for the nice compliments, Helen. I value your critical intelligence.
