Eve of the Eve

Albrecht Durer - Adam and Eve
Lots of low hanging fruit today.

Political discourse has to be at its absolute nadir in this country. Well, hopefully anyway. Where does one start? Wisconsin Rep. James Sensenbrenner thinks that the first lady has a big ass. She's an african american James, they have a slightly different physiology. She is a lovely woman and one of the most fit first ladies I can recall. Ever look in the mirror, cheesebutt? Brent Bozell, a republican operative from the Conservative Media Research Center, likens the President of our country to a skinny, ghetto crackhead on thursday. Here's Bozell's entire quote:

"How long do you think Sean Hannity’s show would last if four times in one sentence, he made a comment about, say, the President of the United States, and said that he looked like a skinny, ghetto crackhead? Which, by the way, you might want to say that Barack Obama does.”

An unsuccessful libertarian city council candidate in Carson, Calif., was investigated by the Secret Service after posting a comment on Facebook about assassinating President Barack Obama and his family. Jules Manson posted, "Assassinate the fucking nigger and his monkey children." Manson said on Facebook that three Secret Service agents showed up at his trailer home and questioned him.  He said the experience was "intimidating."

Pastor Michael Stahl, a minister in Florida wants to start a national registry of Atheists. So we can keep tabs on the nonbelievers.  I'll let him tell you:

Brothers and Sisters , I have been seriously considering forming a ( Christian ) grassroots type of organization to be named “The Christian National Registry of Atheists” or something similar . I mean , think about it . There are already National Registrys for convicted sex offenders , ex-convicts , terrorist cells , hate groups like the KKK , skinheads , radical Islamists , etc. Now, many (especially the atheists), may ask "Why do this, what's the purpose?" Duhhh, Mr. Atheist for the same purpose many States put the names and photos of convicted sex offenders and other ex-felons on the I-Net - to INFORM the public! I mean, in the City of Miramar, Florida, where I live, the population is approx. 109,000. My family and I would sure like to know how many of those 109,000 are ADMITTED atheists! Perhaps we may actually know some. In which case we could begin to witness to them and warn them of the dangers of atheism. Or perhaps they are radical atheists, whose hearts are as hard as Pharaoh's, in that case, if they are business owners, we would encourage all our Christian friends, as well as the various churches and their congregations NOT to patronize them as we would only be "feeding" Satan.

Frankly, I don't see why anyone would oppose this idea - including the atheists themselves (unless of course, they're actually ashamed of their atheist religion, and would prefer to stay in the 'closet.').

On the same subject, I got a chuckle out of Richard Kirk's editorial in this week's North County Times. Merry Santa Monica Solstice, Thursday December 22, 2011. Kirk is a priggish moralizer who rarely makes any sense but is notable for his vituperative bile and stunted cranium. His nose is out of joint because the atheists are picking on the christians again up in Santa Monica.

...Palisades Park has long displayed a series of Nativity scenes assembled by various church groups. This year, however, only two of the 21 display areas focus on Christmas. Another, appropriately enough, has a Hanukkah theme.
Three, however, tout anti-religious messages, and the rest are empty—all thanks to non-resident atheist activist Damon Vix and his cohorts from American Atheists Inc. and the Freedom from Religion Foundation.
The Trinity of in-your-face displays wish holiday viewers a “Happy Solstice,” place the Christian faith on the same level as the Olympian god Neptune, and provide spectators with this intellectually dubious observation by Thomas Jefferson: “Religions are all alike—founded on fables and mythologies.”

Christians are sore because Jesus is now on the same rung as Neptune? Priceless!

“One of the techniques now being applied by the Reds to weaken the pillar of religion in our country is the drive to take Christ out of Christmas – to denude the event of its religious meaning.”
"There goes Christmas." John Birch Society pamphlet c. 1959

“The whole record of the Jewish opposition to Christmas, Easter and other Christian festivals, and their opposition to certain patriotic songs, shows the venom and directness of [their] attack…And it has become pretty general. Last Christmas most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone’s Birth.”
The International Jew , Henry Ford c. 1921

Great Ron Paul story on AlterNet - apparently there was a concerted effort to appeal to racists in order to grab power. The article is titled Ron Paul and Libertarianism's Dirty Secret -- Pandering to Racist "Rednecks" to Get Ahead. I always wondered about Paul's failure to disassociate himself from people like the white supremacists at Stormfront and his unwillingness to return their campaign contributions. In addition he has always supported the rights of individuals to privately discriminate and was strongly opposed to the Civil Rights Act of 1965. He appeared on a radio show devoted to white supremacy and holocaust denial, but whose archives have been freshly scrubbed to omit mention of him. Paul predicts a coming race war.

Now Paul is trying to create a distance between himself and a newsletter that ran under his byline, The Ron Paul Report. Says he never read it. Libertarians are besides themselves, blanketing every story on the internet that all of these questions have been asked and answered in the past and that it is time to move on. Not quite yet.

Here are a few of his gems:

“I miss the closet. Homosexuals, not to speak of the rest of society, were far better off when social pressure forced them to hide their activities. They could also not be as promiscuous. Is it any wonder the AIDS epidemic started after they ‘came out of the closet,’ and started hyper-promiscuous sodomy?” -June 1990

“An ex-cop I know advises that if you have to use a gun on a youth, you should leave the scene immediately, disposing of the wiped off gun as soon as possible. Such a gun cannot, of course, be registered to you, but one bought privately (through the classifieds, for example).” ‘Blast ‘Em’, October 1992

“[Martin Luther King, Jr.], the FBI files reveal, was not only a world-class adulterer, he also seduced underage girls and boys…And we are supposed to honor this ‘Christian minister’ and lying socialist satyr with a holiday that puts him on par with George Washington?” -December 1990

Dude scares me. Something has never added up. My friend Rich is a Paul supporter and a principled guy but we will have to agree to disagree on this one. Interesting sort of defense of Paul by Nick Gillespie in Reason, Ron Paul Ugly, Racist Newsletters Not Going Away, But Do They Invalidate His Candidacy? And a different spin by Joe Conason at Rasmussen.

Sarah Palin has issues with the Obama's Christmas card featuring Bo, the family's Portuguese water spaniel. She told Fox News radio that she found it "odd" that the card emphasizes the dog instead of traditions like "family, faith and freedom." She then mentioned that one of the ornaments last year was a picture of Chairman Mao. Actually it was a Warhol picture of Mao in lipstick and eyeshadow and one of   several hundred ornaments decorated and sent in by community groups. There are frigging 21 versions of the Warhol at the National Gallery. Should we start the purge there? Oh brother. How could any normal person have a problem with this christmas card?

"We've got to be tolerant of people who celebrate holidays in December, like Ramadan. ... You've got to be tolerant of all people.I am tolerant. I'm all for free speech and free rights, just not on December 25th."
Gretchen Carlson - Fox News Host

Democratic Senator Tom Harkin from Iowa wants the feds to investigate South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. She took $1,000,000.00 from the federal government to study health exchanges, a fulcrum of the Obama Health plan but sent an email out informing her handpicked board how she wanted things to ultimately play out.

This is a part of an email message that she sent to a member of the panel:

"The whole point of this commission should be to figure out how to opt out and how to avoid a federal takeover, NOT to create a state exchange."

They spent over 100k having meetings and arrived at the preconceived conclusion. Harkin wants Health and Human Services to get the million bucks back. A breakdown by the woman who broke the story at the Post and Courier, Renee Dudley.

“It was certainly not the intent for those taxpayer funds to be distributed for a predetermined and meaningless outcome. Spending taxpayer funds to construct an ideologically-motivated façade not only violates Congress’s intent, but also the public’s trust in government."
Tom Harkin

"Oh my God, we just threw $1 million away here," said Frank Knapp, who participated in the meetings as president of the S.C. Small Business Chamber of Commerce. "This confirms this whole thing was an effort to justify the million-dollar grant, but the reality is they had no intention of even exploring whether the state should establish an exchange -- which is exactly what the grant called for."

I think that I am done. That's enough. Corrie says that I am picking on Jesus, a nice jewish boy. Hope I'm not.

I often want to respond to your thoughts on your blog, but I get onto something else and forget.  But you disapproved of eliminating "environmental review" of the pipeline from Canada.  And I want to point out that eliminating the environmental review PROCESS is not the same as eliminating environmental review.
If you get some time off from your blog I suggest you open your computer and google "California Court Opinions."  And if you open that page you will find a link to California cases decided in the last 60 days.  On the left side of the screen you will also see a link to "unpublished opinions."  If you get some experience in opening cases, published and unpublished, you will get an intuition to find environmental cases.  They generally have a California city, county or agency as a defendant.  Often those are cases alleging that the environmental impact report is inadequate for some reason.
The "report" is a long document that, in print, lists possible objections to a project and why those objections have been minimized or eliminated.  No one reads the report except the people objecting to the project.  For a pipeline line project, if the report says there is a problem of migratory wild life crossing the line, and that is taken care of in some way, the objectors will say it doesn't deal with how the breeding habits of jack rabits will be screwed up.
In other words, the "process" has only one purpose, to give people opposed to a project a way to delay it--for a while.
Example, here in Davis the City Council objected to a Kidwell road overpass being built over the I-80 freeway four miles south of the city.  It managed to delay the project on the basis of an inadequate E I R until the State Department of Public Works said it would repave some streets in Davis in exchange for dismissing the law suit; which the city did.  The city didn't give a damn about the overpass--but it was a way to extort money from the state.
If you read some of the cases, you might reach the same conclusion I have;  the purpose of the process is to delay forever the project and line the pockets of attorneys with money.   UNCLE NORM

Ciao and happy holiday/christmas,kwanzaa, goat burning, chanukah, yule log, the whole megillah.

You are assuming, of course, that Sarah Palin is normal!!!

I appreciate your other observations.
