Both of these murderers should have taken their last breath years ago. Both have lawyers that are intent on casting blame anywhere else except where it belongs and continually gaming the system.
Lewis's attorney James F. Rocap III says that a good and decent person (Lewis) is about to lose her life because of a system (?) that is broken. He claims that the gunmen manipulated his client. Please. Brown's lawyer David Senior says that the lethal injection team has not been adequately trained.
I have an idea. If the lethal injection does not work for one reason or another, perhaps because of the team's incompetence, just position someone outside with a 357 magnum and finish the job. I am reminded of the fat inmate in Washington who said that due to his obesity, execution would be cruel and unusual punishment. Sucks for you, Jumbo.
Brown never even proclaimed his innocence, but has been saved by a pussy Marin County judge who ruled in 2006 that the standard protocol for lethal injections caused excruciating pain before death. Boo hoo. I am sure that the people they killed hurt a lot too and I am sure that their families still hurt.
It is a shame that we live in a sometimes terrible world where people occasionally commit unconscionable crimes but it is a fact. I have no doubt that some of these people are truly retarded or insane. But it is also a reality that we can not let these murderers back on the streets to kill again. It is unfortunate but your salvation, and/or remediation is beyond our earthly ken. Better luck next incarnation.

Like swallows returning to Capistrano, the expected U.N. Human Right's Report is back concerning the Israeli's interception of the Gaza flotilla. Israel's use of violence was disproportionate, excessive and brutal according to the three judge panel from Trinidad, Malaysia and Britain. Yea, yea, ya.
The report found that Israeli commandos' response to the flotilla was disproportionate and "betrayed an unacceptable level of brutality". "The conduct of the Israeli military and other personnel towards the flotilla passengers was not only disproportionate to the occasion but demonstrated levels of totally unnecessary and incredible violence," the report said.
"The circumstances of the killing of at least six of the passengers were in a manner consistent with an extralegal, arbitrary and summary execution," it added.
The 56-page report also said that the Israeli blockade was itself unlawful, because of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, meaning Israel's claim that it was entitled to use force to defend the blockade should be dismissed.
Now I have watched and posted the videos of the Israelis being beaten with metal rods, knives and chairs and thrown in the ocean. I have also seen and posted the video that the Turks made prior to the flotilla promising to liberate Palestine by violent means if necessary. This was a a martyrdom campaign if there ever was one. The organizers wanted action and they got it. Israel had told the flotilla organizers from the outset that the boats would be stopped. Can you imagine any country allowing its borders to be so breached?
Once again the usual suspects deny Israel's right to protect itself and deny its sworn enemies the weapons to destroy them. Once again they rant about collective punishment while the Hamas dominated Gazans celebrate Israeli deaths with pizza parties in the streets and a cowardly pattern of hiding their missiles among civilian centers. It is a war. The Human Rights people are mum when the Israelis are on the receiving end of the violence. Because to people like the United Nations and to certain members of this administration, jews are okay only when they are on the tail end of the stick.
The United Nations has long since given up any attempts to be fair and objective where Israel is concerned. Obama's surrogates have allowed Israel to be censured by this islamically dominated Security Council body while countries like Libya are exalted.
I would tell them all to pound sand. The United Nations has long since outlived its useful purpose.

Of course we should not let murderers back out on the streets to kill again, but does it automatically follow that we should execute them to prevent this from happening?
Short answer - works for me. Or in the immortal words of Thomas Jefferson, try them on Sunday, hang them on Monday...
Okay... so the English and the Europeans are all against Israel (according to your "Sacre blue! post") one and a half billion Muslims across the globe hate the Jews, and you are accusing the United Nations of NOT being "fair and balanced" in their treatment of the Israel.
I totally agree.
I also believe that Obama doesn't necessarily have Israel's best interests in mind.
And what about those wild and crazy liberals... well, you said it in the "Peace train, slowly moving" about the four Jews that were murdered at Kiryat Arba. and I quote... "Interesting, about half of the letters to the Huffington Post blame the victims of this murder rather than the perpetrators. Liberal thought in America today."
You didn't get one comment on it from any of your liberal readers.
So...What I don't understand is your assessment of Christians and your profound hatred towards them as a whole. The one group that toes the line in their unwavering support of Israel and their rights (see Pat Robertson's speech "Why Evangelical Christians Support Israel".) http://www.patrobertson.com/Speeches/IsraelLauder.asp
This is in no way an endorsement of Pat Robertson (I am not a Christian) or the Christian movement but rather an acknowledgment of the fact that since I have been reading your blog I realize just how skewed and biased your views are (sort of like the U.N. and Israel) and that I am a lot farther away from being the liberal that I thought I was.
But then again, in my humble opinion, so are you.

The following was written by Ben Stein regarding Christmas
Herewith at this happy time of year, a few confessions from my beating heart:
I have no freaking clue who Nick and Jessica are. I see them on the cover of People and Us constantly when I am buying my dog biscuits and kitty litter. I often ask the checkers at the grocery stores. They never know who Nick and Jessica are either. Who are they? Will it change my life if I know who they are and why they have broken up? Why are they so important? I don't know who Lindsay Lohan is, either, and I do not care at all about Tom Cruise's wife.
Am I going to be called before a Senate committee and asked if I am a subversive? Maybe, but I just have no clue who Nick and Jessica are. Is this what it means to be no longer young. It's not so bad.
Next confession: I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees. It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, "Merry Christmas" to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu. If people want a creche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.
I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.
Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship Nick and Jessica and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him?
I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where Nick and Jessica came from and where the America we knew went to.
Beautiful Widow Dancer, maybe the best comment I have ever received. Bravo. Can't argue with any of it. But believe it or not...some of my very best friends are christians, I don't hate them. I just worry about the impact some of them are having on freedoms I think are precious and in danger in this country at present.
Capital punishment- One of the few times I disagree with you. I'm with "anonymous".
Yeah, I know what you're saying.
I have this redneck friend from North Carolina.
In my view, he is just about as racist as they come. A never ending stream of racial slurs, jokes and negative comments designed to degrade and humiliate the blacks that I have always assumed (due to his comments) he hated.
When I accused him of being a racist he said the same thing.
"Some of my best friends are black."
Maybe I owe you both an apology.

I think that i get your point, window. I say a lot of crappy things, on a pretty consistent basis, about the ruling sect. I don't have a lot of faith in belief systems of any kind, especially in cultures where the popular myth has allowed to override physical law, rationality and science. If I lived on Vulcan, I would probably be pissy with the Vulcanian literalists.
I understand the need for myth and religion, but in a clinical anthropologist, Margaret Meadey sort of way. When one person on his or her own acts stupid, it is something we generally tolerate. When a whole bunch of people do it in concert, there is a dumbo synergy that takes place that becomes overwhelming for me. My apologies.
I went to camp in the mountains of New Mexico when I was seven or eight. I remember when the kids found out that I was a jew. There were several hundred of them surrounding me at the campfire, yelling and taunting me, "You killed Jesus." Who was this Jesus guy, I thought, semi bewildered? I had never killed anybody. But the incident left me with a lifelong feeling of distaste for the majority and affinity for the rights of the dispossessed.
I have wonderful christian friends who love me enough to appreciate a frank and honest exchange of ideas.
Barbara, I have a pragmatic and simplistic worldview that recognizes that there are a whole mess of nasty predators out there. Once they kill, all it takes is a shrink to convince a judge that they are nuts and another shrink to say that they are sane and let them out of the nuthouse. They then kill again. I think that everyone benefits from us freeing them from the human gene pool and life experience. I respect your views on the matter and honestly disagree. We don't have the resources as a society to cure all the evil psychotic wackjobs.
You got your wish; last night the state of Virginia ended the life of Teresa Lewis, by lethal injection; personally, i do not feel avenged; i feel sickened and, as a proud American, disgraced; hopefully enough of us feel the same way, so that one day we can finally awaken from the nightmare of capital punishment.
Goody.
I can definitely understand how the
effects of traumatic experience in our younger years can shape the person we will become.
The "I had a troubled youth" argument pretty much makes the case for those who are against the death penalty. The prisons are filled with criminals who were abused as children.
But I do have to admit that I'm with you in the "eye for an eye" department. I even like to think that I wouldn't have a problem pushing the KILL BUTTON or even pulling the trigger, if as you wrote "If the lethal injection does not work... position someone outside with a 357 magnum and finish the job."
But the case you make regarding the Jewish boy that got sent to the "wrong camp" filled with evil Christian children leads me believe that your parents failed miserably to do their homework about where to send you to camp. I have had long discussions with my 84 year old at Jewish attorney about the mindset in California following World War 2. Jews were treated much in the same way that blacks were treated and were discriminated against just about everywhere.
Even the seaside jewel of La Jolla "had an unwritten understanding regarding Jews throughout the 1950s and early 1960's. La Jollans wanted to keep Jews out of their town.
See: "Flaw in the Jewel: Housing Discrimination Against Jews in La Jolla, California"
http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/american_jewish_history/summary/v084/84.3stratthaus.html
Unless your parents lived in a complete vacuum they had to have know the dangers that await a 7 year old Jewish boy going to camp back in the late 50's/early 60's.
Maybe your parents sent you to camp to teach you one of those hard knock lessons to toughen you up. Maybe they truly were naive, or maybe they just didn't give a damn. I don't know your parents so I can't answer that. If they are still around you might ask them.
But getting to the point...
Using the analogy of the Jewish boy surrounded by 200 pissed off Christians goes a long way to support the United Nations view of Israel regarding the Palestinian problem.
It doesn't cut it in my book.
I certainly hope your not one of those "have one's cake and eat it too." kind of guys.
