"genius at work" should be the title of this video, the way Brian gets exactly what he wants to hear out of this A-list of studio musicians; Pet Sounds was a milestone in American music; i don't think it will ever be topped.
You are right about the genius at work thing, Grumps. The best Beach Boys cuts reminds me of gregorian chants. He structures the brass in this like Copeland.
I'm a second-hand Beach Boys fan - their vocal harmonies were a huge influence on my all-time faves the Man band from Wales. So although I never got into the Beachies directly, I feel I know them quite well through Man! Same story with the Grateful Dead - who gave the Man men their love of extended jams.
and don't forget their followup albums Smiley Smile and Wild Honey (taken from the fabled Smile sessions)..i also loved the eponymous "comeback" album Brian released in 1988...

Hands down the best, most influential pop album of all time. Still relevant. Sounds best on vinyl.

The music store was called Walecky's and they were in Westwood, not that it matters one hoot or harmony.
