Notre Dame and the dissing of the President.

I confess that this is not the most original of thoughts, I have heard it voiced in several ways in the past week or two. But does it strike any of you as somewhat "selective" and unfair that the catholic community is so up in arms over the Obama visit? His pro choice stance infuriates many at the school.  Yet doesn't Catholic thought and canon forbid the death penalty as well? And the waging of war? There have been several Catholics who have spoke at the school who are pro death penalty, including I believe one Patrick Buchanan.  Explain to me why taking a full grown human being is ok, while a fetus is not again...

It is strange to me that after several decades of working very well with progressives in this country, the Catholic church seems to be moving farther and farther to the right of the mainstream.  They have a right to have anyone they want speak at the school of course. But if the event ends up disrespecting the President of the United States, I think it will further the chasm between the church and much of the american public.
