New Canyon Dwellers

We have babies in the canyon. About two months ago, I called the neighbors to come check out a bird. We all have lived here for decades but the raptor I saw perched on a telephone pole was the biggest hawk I had ever seen and I wanted to make sure it wasn't a golden eagle. Huge white barrel chest but just plain big. It since nested in a very tall sycamore tree and had three babies. Spent three hours yesterday with my 300mm lens taking pictures of the nest but it wasn't quite long or sharp enough. I am going to see about renting a 500mm and getting my sensor cleaned. Here are a few pictures of the red tail and her brood. Mama sat on a telephone pole and waited for me to leave so she could bring them their dinner. If you click on the pics they should zoom. Hope that I can get some great shots in the days ahead.

Good shots, but you need to buy a real man's camera-a Canon.

The day I buy a Canon is the day I become a Log Cabin Republican. Don't hold your breath.

The same day you posted this I had a post about the resident peacocks at my house. After I posted it my tenant called to say that the peahen had laid eggs in a nest on the ground right outside the back door. Now I'm worrying. I hope they'll be safe.

Beautiful shots of the new babies. I don't know why you'd need it to be any more close-up.
