Function at the Injunction

http://nctimes.com/articles/2008/11/22/news/inland/fallbrook/zda5af760affe8fab8825750600729f54.txt

...interesting and thoughtful article in this past Saturday's North County Times regarding the pros and cons of a possible legal injunction here in Fallbrook to counter the perceived threat of our very own Latino gang (FVL i think they call themselves), estimated membership about 50...personally i find such a step troublesome, the prospect of racial profiling disturbs me... all in all i find Mr. Favela's arguments more compelling than Ms. Braendel's- better to find a way to get the hispanic community involved in solving the problem, along with the sheriffls dept, instead of the heavy handed injunction approach...better still, brush up on your high school Spanish and speak it with those who are still struggling with their English, a simple buenos dias, como esta? goes a long ways, they really appreciate it, don't be afraid to make mistakes- by combining the two languages, we can communicate...it's not us against them, it's all us, we're all in the same boat...

It was a a good NCTimes article, particularly the statistic that only 3% of crimes in Fallbrook are considered gang related. So, it would seem the crime prevention group has been focussing on a myth. Now that we've determined the enemy is more diverse than originally opined, it would be darn dandy to take the most inclusive approach possible to crime prevention in our town.

from what i've read in the past, it is the proximity of casinos to us here in Fallbrook that is a major contributor to crime, ie drug addicts burgarlize houses so that they can play the tables and the slots to win money to feed their habits...

I laughed about the shoes in the wires being a signal to buy drugs at that location. Where have I been? Sounds like typical anglo fearmongering to me. I think our community is one of the safest around - most everyone tries to "do the right thing..."

There were shoes hanging on the wires near my store for years. Maybe that's why the non-gang, non-latino burglar broke through the back window of my store in search of a stash? He was captured after robbing 19 stores, sent to jail, and is now out on probation. If it wasn't for drugs, he must of been delusional to think there was a large stash of money in a bookstore. How do you make a small fortune? Take a large fortune and open a bookstore.
But I digress.....
