Dear fellow residents,
It’s no secret that many of us are suffering through hard economic times. Not to sound too much like a politician, but I think that better days are ahead.
I have talked to many of our fine local restaurant owners and some are having a tough time as well.
Contrary to popular wisdom, we have some excellent food options in this town. I know that times are tight but I ask that the next time you decide to drive to the coast or elsewhere to dine, you consider our fine local restaurants first.

comment to Bob says :Reality check..do you get the big picture, Bob?
Bob, I surely would take your advice, if I had the money for transportation and dining out privledges, to feed me, my wife and five kids.
I am one of the 7.7% of California workers who just got laid off. For now, and who knows how long, me and the family will be eating PB&J and balogna sandwiches instead of the luxury of eating out, except for an occasional BIG MAC at Mickey D's. The food stamps will help!

Robert Sommers says :I got it...I know quite a few people in town in the same boat and I have been there myself. But I was not exactly addressing your demographic. I love skippy chunky myself but not on a full time basis. I would lay off the Big Mac - Poverty is bad enough without mixing in clogged arteries and heart disease. Thanks for the wake up call.

ok Robert, we'll try to pick up the slack while you're away, Godspeed and safe trip to you and Leslie...as for local eateries, El Jardin gets my top vote, the waitstaff is young, goodlooking and friendly and the mexican pizza is to die for (La Caseta gets similar good marks from me also)... most of the other places in town i can't get worked up over though, with the exception of Aquaterra at Pala Mesa Resort (i don't know if that counts, though, being way out there off old hwy 395)...
geeeezuz----
been there....been where??
You are one lucky son of a muther fucker!
Driving to where to fly to where to drive to where???
I think you have entered the realm of lucky white person.
You better be careful with your reach out with a liberal hand attitude lest someone on the street rip your lungs out!
Have a great time on your trip and think of me in NYC, carless but not careless.

Regarding that BigMac...in my town there are a dozen or more locally-owned options to the Golden Arches, so even if you crave the taste, texture and aroma of a BigMac, there's a decision you gotta make as far as the "where -when-how" of that desire's manifestation.
Hey Artsy, It's funny, my sister in Florida is well to do and could dine anywhere but when she comes to California she beelines for Jack in the box for the gamey 2 for 99 cents tacos. They've never really discovered where the meat comes from, even after an exhaustive investigation. But for her, it's like Lutece. Same goes for le big mac. They nailed the sauce. The Guatemalans who work on my ranch prefer Carl's 10 to 1. I would probably go to McDonalds first because Joan Kroc was such a good democrat.
I'm sick of trailer trash flying in airplanes, driving new suv's and eating at my favorite restaurants.
Maybe this economy will weed out the undesireables once and for all.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I'm going back to my "fantasy session" of a threesome with Sarah Palin and Cindy McCain.
