Klondike Meltdown

Its only September and I'm already sick of the politics. I know what you're thinking - who the hell are you kidding, Rob, you are the crown prince of muck - I know, I know, but I've had enough. Really. I'm just going to step into this cesspool one last time, I promise not to get any on me.

I was pretty happy with the Biden pick - he, Dodd and Richardson being the most experienced candidates of the Prez contenders. He is a relatively poor guy who even has credit card debt and you have to love that...His dad sold cars.

Palin is a major traffic accident waiting to happen. Cindy McCain made the audacious statement the other day that Palin would be most acutely aware of US/Soviet relations because of Alaska's proximity to Russia. Uh, yeah. My guess is that the Wasilla Barracuda couldn't tell the difference between Valdosta and Vladivostock if you spotted her all the consonants and half the vowels. And an Atlas. This woman ran a city of 9000 with approximately 50 employees for a couple years and I have full confidence in her ability to hold on to the nuclear football. Uh, Ya. She fired all of her employees right out of the box and then required a loyalty oath when they got rehired. Apparently she dismissed a state law enforcement official when he refused to fire her ex brother in law. Now her lawyer is up there trying to stack the jury with her appointees. She has major issues with her knowledge of the Pledge of Allegiance. She lied when she said that she opposed the Bridge to nowhere, while in fact being a major supporter. Rather than being a reformer she in fact ran Ted Steven's 527 group. She doesn't want to put Polar Bears on the endangered list while they are being threatened with a dramatic loss of ice. She is part of this Alaska rape and pillage movement that wants to profiteer by extracting every thing they can get from the earth, damn the consequences. She wants to drill at ANWR. She is against any abortion exceptions for rape or incest. Hubby wants Alaska to secede from the union. Absolutely confidence inspiring.

I got this letter from a friend today and I guess I should reprint it. Why not pile on?

This was sent to me by a friend’s mother named Liz Krieger. Liz must know someone named Jackie who lives in Alaska and is familiar with Sarah Palin. Jackie is obviously not a big fan. Read on..............

Dear classmates -

As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on
Sarah Palin, Senator McCain's choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I
know more than most of you about her and, frankly, I am horrified
that he picked her.

The most accurate description of her is red neck. Her husband
works in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snow mobiles.
She is life time member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to allow
indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in Alaska , particularly wolves
and bears. She has spent millions of Alaska state dollars on aerial
hunting of these predators from helicopters and airplanes, dollars
that should have been spent, for example, on Alaska 's failing
school system. We have the lowest rate of high school graduation in the
country. Not all of you may think aerial predator hunting is so
bad,but how anyone (other than Alaska wolf-haters, of which there are
many, most without teeth), could think this use of funds is
appropriate is beyond me. If you want to know more about the
aerial hunting travesty, let me know and I will send some links to
informative web sites.

She has been a strong supporter of increased use of fossil fuels,
yet the McCain campaign has the nerve to say she has "green" policies.
The only thing green about Sarah Palin is her lack of experience. She
has consistently supported drilling in ANWR, use of coal-burning power
plants (as I write this, a new coal plant is being built in her
home town of Wasilla ), strip mining, and almost anything else that
will unnecessarily exploit the diminishing resources of Alaska and
destroy its environment.

Prior to her one year as governor of Alaska , she was mayor of
Wasilla,a small red neck town outside Anchorage. The average maximum
education level of parents of junior high school kids in Wasilla is 10th
grade. Unfortunately, I have to go to Wasilla every week to get groceries
and other supplies, so I have continual contact with the people who
put Palin in office in the first place. I know what I'm talking about.
These people don't have a concept of the world around them or of
the serious issues facing the US . Furthermore, they don't care. So
long as they can go out and hunt their moose every fall, kill wolves and
bears and drive their snow mobiles and ATVs through every corner of the
wilderness, they're happy. I wish I were exaggerating.

Sarah Palin is currently involved in a political corruptionscandal.
She fired an individual in law enforcement here because she didn't
like how he treated one of her relatives during a divorce. The man's
performance and ability weren't considered; it was a totally personal
firing and is currently under investigation. While the issue isn't close to the scandal of Ted Steven's corruption, it shows
that Palin isn't "squeaky clean" and causes me to think there may be more issues
that could come to light. Clearly McCain doesn't care.

When you line Palin up with Biden, the comparison would be laughable
if it weren't so serious. Sarah Palin knows nothing of economics
(admittedly a weak area for McCain), or of international affairs,
knows nothing of national government, Social Security, unemployment,
health care systems - you name it. The idea of her meeting with heads
of foreign governments around the world truly frightens me.

In an increasingly dangerous world, with the economy in shambles in
the US , Sarah Palin is uniquely UNqualified to be vice president.John
McCain is not a young man. Should something happen to him such that
the vice president had to step in, it would destroy our country and
possibly the world to have someone as inexperienced and inappropriate
as Sarah Palin. The choice of Palin is a cheap shot by McCain to try
to get Hillary supporters to vote for him. when McCain introducedher
today, Palin had the nerve to compare herself with Hillary and
Geraldine Ferraro. Sarah Palin, you are no Hillary Clinton.

To those of you who, like me, supported Hilary and were upset that she
did not get the nomination, please don't think that Sarah Palin isa
worthy substitute. If you supported Hillary, regardless of what you
think the media and the democratic party may have done to undermine
her campaign, the person to support now is Obama, not Sarah Palin.

To those of you who are independent or undecided, don't let the choice
of Palin sway you in favor of McCain. Choosing her shows how
unqualified McCain is to be president. To those of you who are conservative, I
guess you have no choice for president. But please try to see how the
poor choice of Palin tells us a great deal about McCain's
judgment. While the political posturing inherent in the choice of Palin is
obvious, the more serious issue is the fact that the VP is,literally,
a heartbeat away from the presidency. Sarah Palin is totally and
unequivocally unqualified to be vice president, let alone president.

I know this is a lengthy and emotional email, but the stakes are high.
I thought it might help for all of you, regardless of political
affiliation, to know something about Palin from someone who has to
live with her administration in Alaska on a daily basis.

Jackie S.

Whew! I find it interesting that this paragon of god, guns and motherhood would impart such great maternal advice to her daughter. Governor Palin vetoed sex-ed studies in Alaska ( as did McCain in Arizona) and is against abortion and apparently contraception as well. You see how well those abstinence programs work. Just how old was her daughter at conception anyway? And the proud father - he seems really ready for this responsibility. Just what we need, more white trash in the Oval Office. Are there no statutory rape laws in Alaska?

Thankfully she is a religious woman as shown by this blip that I confiscated from Huff Post today:

Her speech in June provides as much insight into her policy leanings as anything uncovered since she was asked to be John McCain's running mate.

Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

Religion, however, was not strictly a thread in Palin's foreign policy. It was part of her energy proposals as well. Just prior to discussing Iraq, Alaska's governor asked the audience to pray for another matter -- a $30 billion national gas pipeline project that she wanted built in the state. "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

[Former mayor] John Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. “She asked the library how she could go about banning books,” he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. “The librarian was aghast.” That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn’t be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving “full support” to the mayor.

Her pastor apparently thinks that suicide bombings in Israel are part of the creators great plan for the end times. Ya, I'm comfortable with you lady. I have little faith in my countryman after the last seven year debacle - I dare you, prove me wrong... If we elect this woman, we deserve her, thats all I can say.

Alaska, according to Guttmacher, is # 1 for contraception access. So, please, don't preach about "abstinence-only" when you're wrong.

Among the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Alaska ranked

* 1st in service availability;
* 14th in laws and policies;
* 1st in public funding; and
* 2nd overall.

We are not talking about Alaska and its participation in Federal contraception efforts. We are talking about positions that Governor Palin herself has advocated during her tenure. Palin has said that she opposes funding sexual-education programs in Alaska.

"The explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," she wrote in a 2006 questionnaire distributed among gubernatorial candidates at the Eagle Forum.

In addition she vetoed funding for unwed teen mothers earlier this year.

Alaska does not currently receive federal Title V funds. As of 2002, the Kaiser Family Foundation publication reported that Alaska was in a category of states requiring only that abstinence be “stressed,” but not necessarily to the exclusion of so-called “comprehensive” sex education. On the other hand, Alaska also did not require contraception information in sex ed classes at that time.

Thank you for your well researched addition. I really appreciate it.

I smell the stench of Karl Rove tactics here. How dare they attempt to snag the disgruntled Hillary supporters with this backwoods, white trash, holier-than-thou, narrow minded c*nt! It sickens me to think that many intelligent voters out there will be swayed by this trickery and possibly send us further down the tubes! Haven't we suffered enough with one ignorant religious zealot?

Hopefully, some voice of reason will prevail. But don't hold your breath!
